What is it?
The Custom Admin Branding Plugin allows you to brand and customize the WordPress administration area for clients or for personal use. You can display custom images and styles for the login screen, admin header and footer. It should be fairly easy to use for anyone familiar with WordPress and has basic css and html skills. At its simplest it only requires you to activate and then replace three images with your own. Photoshop templates are included to help you with that.
UPDATE: 3-1-2011
When you only use Subversion once a year or so you have a good chance of screwing things up… That’s what happened last night when I went to upload the latest version of the plugin. I’m working on getting it fixed. Until then here is the download of the actual working latest release.
The Latest Version – Why the Changes?
If you have been using the Custom Admin Branding plugin you’ll notice a bit of a change with this iteration. The intent of the plugin has always been to assist developers in providing a quick way to brand the WordPress login and admin for their clients.
When the plugin was originally conceived the WordPress UI was okay but needed a lot of work. I would often customize a lot of the admin to get it to look how I wanted for my clients. Since the plugin was created the WordPress UI has gone through some dramatic changes and improvements. With each new version the WordPress UI becomes more usable and beautiful. It is with that knowledge that the direction this plugin will take from now on is to help compliment the default UI while still providing options to customize.
I know that some people will be upset that some options have been removed. I have tried to compensate for that by adding in a field that will accept any css style rules you want to write.
Please note that if you upgrade your original options will not be saved.
My hope is that going forward this will be a great compliment to the arsenal of developers wanting a quick and easy way to brand WordPress and an easy way for the average user to spice up their site.

Installation
- Download the Custom Branding Plugin
- Upload the ‘custom_branding’ folder to your plugins folder
- Go to the plugin section in your admin and activate
- After activation, you may need to refresh your browser to clear your cache to see the new images.
Customization Colors
The options that support color change have a swatch next to the form field. You can either click the color swatch or click into the form field. Doing so will bring up a palette of color options. You are not restricted by the choices in the palette. You can enter any 6 figure hexadecimal color code. You must however precede your code with the pound sign (#).
Customizing Images
There are four images that you can customize:
- Login Form Background
- Login Form Login Button Background
- Admin Header Logo
- Footer Logo
All of the default images are in the images folder which is in the custom-admin-branding plugin folder. To change an image:
- Create your custom images with the provided Photoshop templates. (They are in the psd_image_templates folder)
- Upload your custom image(s) with the built in WordPress uploader.
- After your image is uploaded click the “insert in post” button or copy and paste the file url in image field.
- Click the save changes button at the bottom of options page and you will see your changes immediately.
Please note that the optimal size for the header logo is 32px by 32px. You may have an image longer than 32px but not higher as it will break the layout. If your image is longer than 32px please enter the width of the image in the supplied field.
Changing the Admin Footer Content
The custom footer is designed for you to put your logo and some helpful information for your client. The optimal image size is 32px by 32px.
The footer text field will accept all text and most html. I use this area to point a link back to my site or a support page for my clients.
Custom CSS
A new feature is the ability to add your own custom css. This field can be used to change any css rule present in the admin. These will not apply to the login page however.

Hi there – This is a great plugin, thanks. The only – and significant – problem though is that, when activated, the plugin is preventing certain dashboard and posting functionality from showing up.
For example, I activated it on two sites running WP 2.2x, after which I could no longer see the “View site†link on the top left of the dashboard and, more importantly, I could see any of the WYSIWIG icons or code shortcuts in the write post interface.
Any idea how these could be fixed please, as otherwise this is a cool and really useful plugin. Cheers, Richard.
Hey there,
This plugin sounds great in theory, but when I downloaded the zipfile, there was only 1 file inside. ‘custom_branding.php’… no folder, no psd templates, just the one php file… i activated it anyway and had problems like richard, with some of the disappearing elements, and I couldn’t see any swatches for color pickers. I am rocking the newest version of WP.
Hey Emeri,
The file you downloaded was just a beta update – download the whole plugin first from the repository and then replace the .php file with the one from the zip. I hope to put out the whole update publicly soon.
thanks!
Sorry, I meant to say I could “not†see any of the WYSIWIG icons or code shortcuts in the write post interface… . Thanks.
Hi Richard,
Thanks for pointing out that error. Unfortunetely I don’t have a solution yet. I did notice that if you deactivate the plugin, bring up the write page and then re-activate the plugin it works – but only for that session.
It seems like the css for the WYSIWIG is getting confused a little bit. I will continue to look into this and post a solution when I find one.
If anyone else has an idea I would welcome any feedback.
I tried out your branding plugin and it works for me sort of. however, when i click log out i get some errors.
I suppose there might be a conflict with another plugin. I can send you a list or screen shot of the plugins i am using.
I also tried to use your contact form and you are having issues with the verify image.
Shoot me an email
Hi
I tried your plugin but receive the same errors on logging out
Great idea though!
I would like to see a continuation of the topic
Love your plug-in. Thanks so much. Was working on this and just decided to do a quick google and found you.
THanks. This is exactly what I need for clients. I use WP for a basic Content Management system – it is so much easier for a client to learn than larger CMS.
This is great.
Thanks again.!
Hopefully the update should eliminate the errors some of you have been getting. There was some whitespace at the end of the code which was causing some havoc with the headers.
Let me know if there are additional issues.
Thanks so much for the plugin. I’ve always wanted to develop one for this purpose but fortunately, I have found it already done.
Thanks for the update as it was causing an error which I wanted to point out but now it is fine.
Hello,
thank you for this great plugin, but I have this problem:
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /mounted-storage/home50b/sub009/sc34411-EILL/
czechbracelet.info/wp-content/plugins/custom_branding/custom_branding.php:56) in /mounted-storage/home50b/sub009/sc34411-EILL/czechbracelet.info/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 391
Can you help me?
Thank you for reply.
Kind regards,
Edie
I responded to an email to Edie but the most recent release of the plugin should clear up the remaining header issues.
It should be noted that the plugin is compatible with WordPress 2.2 and up.
Please let me know if you have any other bugs or general comments.
Very cool plugin. Adds a really nice polish to a site before handing it over to a client.
I’m also excited that this will work with the Drop-Down Menus plugin, though I do hope you (perhaps working with that plugin’s author) do find a way to make them work without modifications. What happens the next time he puts out an update? It’ll be re-screwed up every time an update comes out unless you two build support in.
Still, Nice effort.
(I normally rankle at the necessity of modifying plugin files directly when there could be a Settings page, but in this case I think it works. It makes it a little less easy to mess up the “application design” that you the installer create. I… think… I like this better.)
Hey Stephen,
Thanks for the comment.
I agree that it would nice if the integration would be seamless. The reason you have to modify the Ozh’s code is because my stylesheet is called before his. If anybody has any ideas along this route – I’m totally open for suggestions.
I would actually really like to build in a settings page and if I can find the time in the future there will be. The problem with saving settings is that you then have to build in integration with the database – which is a whole new ballgame.
“The problem with saving settings is that you then have to build in integration with the database – which is a whole new ballgame.”
It’s actually really easy. I’m a hack and I’ve made a few plugins with Settings Screens. You don’t have to work the SQL directly at all — WP has functions that do it.
I even managed to put all of a plugin’s options into an array so it’s one entry in the DB — prevents clutter in users’ tables!
Look for:
get_option()
add_option()
update_option()
As for calling your CSS before Ozh’s, I think you can set a priority when adding the header hook. Set it really high and it should run later.
Sounds good. I’ll give it a try.
Change line 31 of your plugin to this:
add_action('admin_head', 'custom_header', 11);Now it is compatible with Drop-Down Menus.
Oh yeah, and the Plugin URL is incorrect.
Let me know if you want help with the Settings page.
Worked like a charm! I’ll update the plugin. Thanks Stephen!
It now has a settings page for the footer link!
Thanks for the inspiration Stephen.
Im very excited about this plugin, and am just trying it out on my test site. i ran into one problem. i set my header area to white, and cant seem to get the link colors in the upper right to change;
http://skitch.com/bewmedia/etrf/custom-branding-problem
i changed the setting in the css to this
#wphead_custom a {
color: #000000;
border:none;
}
but its not working for me.
maybe im just way over tired, and missing something obvious.
any advice?
oh, also this class doesnt seem to be working completely either, background took but font color didnt
#wphead_custom {
background: white;
padding: .8em 19em .8em 2em;
color: #dd0460;
}
Hey Brooke,
You need to add a couple additional classes to the style sheet (custom_branding_css). For individuals reading this later, these last couple of comments are referring to the legacy version of the plugin for WP 2.3.3 and down.
#wphead_custom a, #wphead_custom a:visited {
color: #000;
border:none;}
#user_info, #user_info a{
color:#000;
border-bottom:none;}
When I get a chance I’ll update the plugin to include these classes by default.
Hi,
Great plugin. No errors at all.
My only question is, how do I change the backgroundcolor of the login-button. It remains blue, whatever I do…
Thanks, Janet
Hi Janet,
Thanks for the comment.
What version of the plugin are you using?
@Janet
The login button’s values are coming from the ‘colors-fresh.css’ file in the css folder which is in the wp-admin folder.
I will update the plugin to include these classes on the custom_branding stylesheet.
Thanks for your good advice Josh!
Now that my login screen is (almost) perfect, I see that the border of the “remember me” radiobutton is still blue.
I’m sure you know how to fix that too…
Cannot find it in the ‘colors-fresh.css’ file you mentioned earlier.
Janet
@Janet
Unfortunately styling radio buttons and checkboxes is somewhat quirky. I believe WordPress actually hasn’t applied any style to it. The blue border you are seeing is coming from your browser.
The only good way I know to style checkboxes is with css and javascript together.
Hi,
I am a newbie that currently test locally WordPress. Why the plugin is not registered at the official site. I have luckily discover it after hazardous web surfing. It’s really convenient to users to search WordPress plugins and consult, rate, comment with only one profile. However, I do not know if it’s convenient too for developer…
Regards.
It is a actually registered at the official site but I’ve never been able to figure out how to use Subversion to actually get it on there.
Unfortunately its a real hassle and for me there are too many hoops to jump through. Maybe in the future though…
uh… it doesn’t work? I uploaded all the files to the folder, and activated the plug in… but my login screen still looks the same as before?
I can try and help but you’ll need to provide a little more information – like what version of WP and the plugin you are using for starters.
Janet(April 8, 2008):
Try this in the plugin’s css:
#rememberme {
background-color: transparent;
border: transparent;
}
rememberme is the id of the checkbox in the login form. This worked for me in IE6/7 & FF2.
k.
Hi Kerry,
Sorry for my delayed reaction, but your solution solved the problem.
Thanks a lot!!!
Janet
Thank you for sharing the plugin. Great stuff!
Love the plugin, I blogged about it. There was one issue though, when using a custom administrator interface, the header and footer parts of the plugin would interfere with the interface. So I modified (more or less removed) part of the code so the plugin would only customize the login screen.
The details are here: http://blog.dimonay.com/500/wordpress-custom-admin-branding-login-only/
Hey Dennis,
Thanks for the kind review.
Yeah, the header and footer customization is an issue when used with other custom admin plugins since they are using the same hooks.
You can potentially use both if you just modify the css and image file to fit the dimensions that the other plugin’s header is using.
For the next release I will think about putting in support for the some of the more common admin themes out there like the Leopard theme, and Fluency.
It appears the new Ozh Admin Drop Down menu (released today?) breaks when used with your plugin. I get the menu appearing below the header image, thus overlapping the page title.
Anyone else get this?
I’ll take a look and get it fixed as soon as I can.
Hi Paul,
I have updated the Custom Branding Plugin. Download the new version and it should work fine with the drop down menu plugin.
Let me know if there are any issues.
Great plugin guys! – I am using it and have even written a short review of it on my site http://www.mikedeanellis.com.
Keep up the good work!
Hey Mike,
Thanks for the kind review. Glad it has been useful for you.
Hi Josh,
very nice plugin, congratulation.
I’ve a question.
How can I change the link of the custom_header.png to view the site home page?
I installed the plugin and than I had to change the website directory, so the preview link is incorrect.
Thank so much
Sorry I forgot this:
WordPress versione 2.6.2.
Custom Admin Branding 1.1.1
thx
@Maceo
Looks like you answered your own question, but the url of the header image is dynamic and is set to be whatever your WordPress site url is.
When you go to your general settings in the WP admin you can set the WordPress address and the blog address. Whatever is in the WordPress address section will be what the header image is pointing to.
If you wanted to change this to be something different you need to go into the custom_branding.php file and change the code around line 92.
Just replace (including the single quotes):
‘ . get_settings(‘siteurl’) . ‘
with the full url of wherever you want the image to link to.
I’ve moved my WP install outside the root into a sub-directory. Now the logo/link to go back home includes the sub-directory as part of the URL. Do I have to manually change that now that the siteurl from the settings page includes the actual path to the core files? Otherwise, LOVE the plug-in! Thanks in advance!
Yes you probably need to manually change that. I will keep that in mind for the next version so this won’t be an issue. Thanks!
So fast!!!
Now it works, thanks so much for your speed.
Really kind.
have a nice night
hi!
nice plugin! is there a easy way to change the bottom on the login screen? (login) its kinda poor, så it could be nice if there where some way to change it.
Take care Mike
Hey Mike,
Are you talking about the “login” button?
If so, there is a class for that in the custom_branding.css file included in the plugin.
Look around line 11 and you will see values for the background-color, border, and color that you can change to match your graphics.
Hi Josh
excuse my spelling its horrible! like u said i where talking about the login buttom;-) thanks so much for the help, ill will style the butt right away:-) and thx for the awesome plugin!
Haha, nice plugin! I will use.
I’ve been getting a fatal error when I try to activate this while I’ve got the bibtex plugin active. Any ideas on how I can fix this?
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare mt_options_page() (previously declared in /u/ORCATECH/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/bibtex/bibtex.php:133) in /u/ORCATECH/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/custom_branding/custom_branding.php on line 19
Hey Nicole,
It looks like there is a conflict with some function names. Try opening up the custom_branding.php file and on line 15 replace
mt_options_page
with
presspix_options_page
Do the same for line 19.
Hopefully that will clear the conflict.
The link for the WordPress 2.5 – 2.6.3 download doesn’t work? 404.
Thanks for the heads up. The link should work now.
Hi Josh, great plugin!
All works well, but just noticed that your 1.2 version says 1.1.1 on the plugins panel, you might want to update the version info.
Hi
Sounds like a great Plugin. I heard about you through yoast.com.
I was wondering, if this plugin will also work with WordPress MU? Would this allow me to rebrand the admin-backend to our own branding?
Thanks for any feedback
Greets,
patrick
@Plugin Junkie – Thanks for the catch. I’ve updated the plugin so the proper version is now displayed.
@Idealizer – I haven’t been able to check to make sure but I’m pretty sure its the same structure is the css so it should work.
Once I verify it I’ll post an update to the plugin page.
That is very useful plugin I should try one of those. thank you for sharing this one.
hi josh,
i am using WordPress 2.7 beta and installed your updated 1.2 version. (btw. thanx for your update) everything is fine except the linkback thing from my dashboard to the wordpress site (in the header) is not there. if i deactivate your plugin the text link to return to the site is there and available.
question
: how can i fix this problem ? i only see a option to the admin_footer but not to the header in the costom_branding.php
thanx for help and answer.
best regards and a nice week from here …
nilson
Hey Nilson,
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll take a look at the latest release of 2.7 and see if anything has changed regarding the link placement.
There is no option currently for the header. It just follows the original WP link back to the home page of your blog/site. If you really want to change it – take a look in the custom_branding.php file and change the href (should be commented well enough to find).
I want the header image to link back to the blog. With this plugin, there is no way to navigate back to the main site out of the admin. Is there some code that can be added to do this?
any update regarding recent release wordpress 2.7?
I did activate the plugins and found that custom header image does not show up on admin page.
@joecool – I want this as well. The underlying code changed a little which prevented this from happening out of the gate but I am working on it and will post an update.
@megasale – I’m not sure why this is happening for you. I have several WP installs running 2.7 with the plugin correctly. Have you upgraded to the most recent version of the plugin? It did changed significantly from the previous version to be compatible with WP 2.7. Also make sure that your image names are correct. They should be exactly the same as in the sample file and in the same directory. They cannot move.
Hi Josh,
I did clear my cookies and refresh the site few times and the prob is gone.
Just that the image does not have the link to homepage (same issue with other member here).
For those of you who check the comments first – the plugin has been updated and includes a link back to your main site as well as some clean up on the login page.
The download link is at the top of the page.
i’m very sad seeing that with the 1.3 version of plugin under wp 2.7 the logo has not displayed. no one of the 3 logos created by this plugin, in wp 2.7 with the 1.1.2 version all works well. it’s very strange…
i’ve corrected it edited the name of directory to custom_branding instead of custom-admin-branding (the default), anyway i advise you to put this code for wphead_custom instead so you can translate in language you wphead bar:
echo ‘
<img id=”header-logo_custom” src=”‘ . get_settings(‘siteurl’) . ‘/wp-content/plugins/custom-admin-branding/images/custom_header.png”
‘;
$user_info = get_userdata(1);
//print_r($user_info);
printf(__(‘Howdy, %2$s‘), ‘/wp-admin/profile.php’, $user_info->user_nicename);
if ( ! $is_opera ) {
echo ‘ | ‘;
_e(‘Turbo’);
echo ‘‘;
}
echo ‘|
‘;
_e(‘Log Out’);
echo ‘
‘;
favorite_actions();
echo ”;
See ya!
Yeah, something went wanky when I uploaded the new version last night.
I finally got svn working so I could put the plugin in the WordPress Extend directory but the correct files did not get placed and I have not been able to figure out how to update them.
I replaced the download link to link to my site here and it should have the correct files.
Sorry for the trouble.
Josh,
My client and I really like the plugin, but I think we’ve found a bug.
In the admin header its expected to display “Howdy, [name of the person logged in]” etc. Instead it displays “Howdy, Brett” no matter who is logged in. It seems it set the user variable to my name at the time of installation and now it’s not looking to see who is logged in.
I took a look at the code, but I’m not a PHP wiz yet.
I did verify that if I deactivate the plugin the correct user name is displayed.
Thanks in advance,
Brett
Josh,
I’m using WP 2.7 and plugin version 1.3.3 The site I’m developing was set up Dec 17, 2008, so I’m not sure if I got the latest version you uploaded on the 23rd or not.
Brett
@Brett
Until I get the plugin updated here is the fix you need.
Around line 97 in custom_branding.php replace:
$user_info = get_userdata(1);
echo($user_info->first_name . “\n”);
with:
global $current_user;
get_currentuserinfo(); echo($current_user->user_firstname . “\n”);
And you should be good to go. Thanks again for bringing this to my attention.
Josh,
Thanks for the very quick reply and solution. I confirmed that the fix does work!
Brett
Hi. I like your plugin, but would like to know how one could extend the graphic on the registration page? The math question is extending beyond the graphic in WP 2.7.
Thanks.
Jonathan
Hey Jonathan,
There are a couple options: You could crop the psd source file to be longer. You could also adjust the background css of the login screen to match up with a background color you need.
if you can point me to your login screen you are talking about I can give you a more specific fix.
Josh:
Thanks for the advice. It worked!
Weeks and weeks trying to find a plugin like this one, you’ve really help me about this one! Many thanks for the info and post! I’ve just download it and I’m going to use write now on my website!
Cheers!
I cant wait to try this out.. Can we use this plug in to customize the registration page as well? If not, does anyone know a good plugin for this task in 2.7?
@daddy design – yes the plugin customizes the registration page (it is the same as the login page)
I don’t like that $current_user->user_firstname is not a mandatory field so I changed it so if firstname isn’t set it will display the user name. I think this is a very good change and submit it to you for your consideration.
global $current_user;
if (isset($current_user->user_firstname)){
get_currentuserinfo(); echo($current_user->user_firstname);
} else {
get_currentuserinfo(); echo($current_user->user_login);
}
is there a way to change the gray strip on top of the login page? And is there a way to change the background color on all the pages?
Thanks for the contrib Josh. I also had the issue with WP 2.7 and the ‘Howdy,…’ username.
I tried the code you gave Brett but I was getting an error and the plugin was disabled.
I found that the code from Ryan worked for me at least until you get a chance to update the plugin
Once again, thanks.
@daddy design
If you open ‘custom_branding.css’ and find #wphead_custom that change the background property to change the header and for the actual background you can put the following code in that file.
/*Main background color hack*/
body {
background:#ccffff;!important}
@Daddy design again ok so the changing the body background hack didn’t do the whole background. I have fixed it heres the new one.
ADD
/*Main background color hack*/
#wpwrap {
background:#ccffff;!important}]
CHANGE
#footer_custom {
clear: both;
text-align: center;
width: 500px;
margin: auto;
height: 100px;}
#footer_custom .docs {
padding-top: 0px;
line-height: 100%;}
TO
#footer_custom {
clear: both;
text-align: center;
width: 100%;
margin: auto;
height: 100px;
background:#ccffff;}
#footer_custom .docs {
margin:0px;
padding-top: 0px;
line-height: 100%;}
I made the background a bright blue just for testing you can easily change just where the colors are referenced.
@Ryan
Awesome. I will include it in the next version. Thanks for the contribution.
Hi Josh,
I installed the plugin. However on the settings page the only thing that shows up is a field to set the “footer link”… No other ‘options’ or fields whatsoever…
I’m using version 1.3.4 of the plugin and WP2.7
Thanks in advance for your reply!
CID
@CID That is the only option currently available right now. In the future I would like to allow for uploading of the images from the options and some other things.
@CID
Also any editing need can be done via the edit plugin page.
@Josh (+Ryan): sorry folks, I should’ve spent a couple of minutes reading the documentation before posting that question. It was a ‘spontaneous install’ at the end of a long day. The principle now is clear.
Nevertheless: thanks for your quick reponse(s) and thanks for sharing the plugin!
Grtz, CID
This is a great plugin. I want to say thanks for making it. I don’t think enough people are aware of it, or most everyone would be using it.
I am getting an error where the words don’t show up on internet explore for the register screen. It works on the login.php screen, but on the register screen it show the new logo, but no words. Eg. User name password.
I am wondering if this is something you have come across?
Thanks.
@Ted
I have not heard about this issue. What version on IE are you using? Can you share the url you are seeing it on? If you don’t want to put it in the comments, contact me through this sites contact form.
Hi Josh, great plugin. Silly question: in the post you refer to v1.3.4 but on WP it shows v1.3.3 – while you apparently released it on the 17th this month, which is strange… You sure you’ve released it on WP?
Reason I’m asking is that with v1.3.3 I’m getting some strange interaction issues with a theme I’m using (i.e. Mysty Morningfrom Nate @ Refueled) so I’m kinda hoping that 1.3.4 licks it, as I’d very much like to use your plugin! (BTW: I’m not asking for help in hunting down that bug – goodness knows what CSS yuyu is going on between the two; I’m just hoping that the new version resolves it…) Thanks again!
@Alvaro
Yeah, I’m not sure what the issue is with the WordPress repository. I updated the plugin a couple weeks ago and while it updated the file you can download it never actually updated the version number being displayed.
If you go the plugin page on the WordPress site and hover over the download link you’ll see that it is actually for 1.3.4. I haven’t had time to pursue it with the WordPress team however.
Most themes don’t affect any admin stuff so unless Misty Morning is different in this regard I would doubt its the theme. It could be a conflict with another plugin. Do any other plugins you have modify the login, header or footer areas? I would start by looking there.
This is a great plugin – well documented and easily modified. Thank you!
I downloaded it from the WordPress repository yesterday and I’m having the problem with it showing the wrong name. So, I checked the version. Even though the .zip was named 1.3.4, the comments in the php file say 1.3.3.
Should have also said that I’m using the username fix you posted above. I just wanted to let you know about the version issue.
Thanks for the info. I will check it out.
I’m having some weirdness with the plugin since the upgrade. Unfortunately, the automatic upgrade through the plugins control panel in 2.7 wiped out all my customizations (which I thought I’d read that upgrades wouldn’t affect anything).
In trying to fix it, it’s duplicating the wp-head stuff including the “howdy…” and the dropdown tabs. It’s basically showing me two stacked on top of each other.
The source says that it’s putting the duplicate inside the head tags, then putting them where they normally go after the body tag.
I downloaded the most current version from WordPress (that says 1.3.3, by the way) moments ago. Is there a newer version that addresses this issue?
Thanks!
Joelle
When the plugin is activated for first time users I wanted the sample images to show up so they know its working and so they can get a feel for what the plugin does. There is probably a way where the script could check to see if images are already in place and therefore wouldn’t overwrite them but that is way over my head. If someone wanted to add that in that would be awesome.
There was a versioning issue last upgrade I’m still trying to work out with the WP people. The link for the 1.3.4 download is correct and is the latest even though the version says 1.3.3. I’m going to try and release 1.3.5 in the next couple of days to clear up confusion.
What version did you upgrade from? Are you using any other plugins that modify the header area?
Hi Josh, I want to suggest some things about this amazing plugin.
1. What about uploading header, footer, and login images to different path from plugins folder? that’s because when we update the plugin we must upload and replace the images again.
2. Could you make a css editor for these items? I mean for login screen, header and footer.
Thanks in advance Josh!
@alectro Great ideas. I will definetely look into the updating issue. It’s annoying for me as well.
Can you explain a little more about the css editor? Are you wanting to have fields on the options page to put in specific values for the css?
Hi Josh, yes I can imagine that would be a lot of work.
About CSS Editor I mean a place to edit the values for the admin/login/logout/forgot-pass page, just like when we edit themes on WP, as a text area to put custom values.
Regards!
I’m believe I’m having the same problem as Joelle above… in Internet Explorer AND using the Ozh’ Admin Drop Down Menu I’m getting the duplicate information at the top of the screen. It looks like this:
Username | Turbo | Log Out Howdy, Username | Turbo | Log Out
In Firefox it looks perfectly fine, and if I deactive either plugin, the drop down or the custom admin, it works fine in IE…
When I first login using internet explorer it looks correct, then immediately refreshes and adds the duplicate information…
Overall a fantastic plugin.
Hi and thanks for this great plugin!
I can’t seem to find where to change the active/hover link color for the login screen page (Register | Lost Your Password).
Also, where’s the text color CSS for the labels over the text input window? (User Name & Password)
Lastly, is there any way to change the WP default gray bar at the top of the sign-in page?
Thanks for the great Plugin Josh!!
I’d love to see the features that alectro requested!
I’d suggest a field in the settings screen which allows the admin to set custom path to the images..
And would love to be able to set the bg colour of the header in particular..
i’ll try pasting code my idea in the next post..
and extra field liek so:
BG Colour (default #464646): #
and a style line for the head:
function custom_header() {
$default = ’464646′;
if($background_colour = get_option(‘admin_branding_col’))
{;}
else
$background_colour = $default;
echo ”;
echo ‘#wphead_custom {background: #’ . $background_colour . ‘;height:100px;}’;
err.. sorry, html like got wiped, but you get the idea..
thanks again! Tim
Hey Tim,
I will try and incorporate it in the next version – attach it to an email and send it to me.
stuff at byershome dot com
kudos on the plugin, I am a newbie to wp and found this fairly simple to install and customize. Like Devon though I’m still trying to figure out the CSS for the text and input fields
wp 2.7.1 ver 1.3.5

I just updated your plugin and it wiped out the settings I already had in place. It would be nice to update and not have all the images set to the PressingPixels images.
I am having the same issue as Jane. Everything is good in Mozilla, however in IE the user info shows up twice.
Is there an easy fix for this?

Thanks for a great plugin. This along with the ozh plugin makes for a much better wordpress admin.
Ok, I am having MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR problems since updating the plugin. Not only did it wipe out my customizations on the login and dashboard, it wiped out my whole control panel. When I sign in, all I get is a header/banner for “pressing pixels – a wordpress magazine”, along with the following, across the top of the banner:
Howdy, admin
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp_logout_url()in /homepages/11/d243789810/htdocs/wp-content/plugins/custom-admin-branding/custom_branding.php
on line 103
This is ALL I get. Nothing else! I couldn’t reverse this process or deactivate this plugin if I tried!!! I can’t do anything. I can’t even log out!!!
What the heck?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!????????????
I am having a MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR problem!! I did an automatic upgrade of the custom admin branding, since it said there was an updated version available. When I did, not only did it wipe out my custom branding, it completely wiped out my whole dashboard, admin, and control panel. All I saw was a header/banner for “pressing pixels – a wordpress magazine”, along with the following, across the top of the banner:
Howdy admin,
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp_logout_url() in
/homepages/11/d243789810/htdocs/wp-content/plugins/custom-admin-branding/custom_branding.php
on line 103 I also saw this: (go to the following url:
http://www.fdfwc.org/wp-login.php).
All that is there is the banner, with the error, and NOTHING ELSE! I couldn’t undo anything or deactivate the plugin if I tried! Please help me! Please tell me there is a fix for this!!!
I’d like to be able to say how great of a plugin this is for everybody else, but so far it’s been one big nightmare, just because I pushed one button…..
@Monica,
I am sorry for your trouble. What version of WordPress are you using? If you have FTP access you can just delete the plugin folder and that will effectively uninstall the plugin.
The image removing is a known issue and I’m working on that for the next release. For now all you have to do is save your original images and just put those back in place of the default ones.
Also, try clearing your browsers cache and doing a hard refresh on your browser window. Sometimes the browser still tries to pull in old info after updating plugins.
Where are the photoshop files for this? I installed the plug in and don’t see them in the folder on the server. thanks!
Alexa
Hi there Josh,
Any chance the header code fragment could be restructured in a way that would enable wordpress text (“Howdy…”) floating over the image if one longer that anticipated is used? I’d like putting up a screen wide header pic mirroring the one from the main page.
Great plugin anyway!
@alexa – sorry for the late reply. If you download the plugin there should be a folder called “source files” if not shoot me an email and I’ll send them to you.
@xerxes – possibly. If you dig into the plugin and take the header image out of the code and instead replace it as a background to header div then all the text could float over it.
I had originally set the plugin up to do just that but then it made it harder to put in the link.
I’ll look into that for the next version though and see what options we might be able to configure.
Thanks a lot Josh, that would be awesome! I’ll try your suggestion in the mean time.
Of course, choosing the images to be displayed through the options page would also improve ease of use for those not accustomed with modifying the code manually. At the same time this could employ checks for proper picture sizes. Just a thought since I’m no expert.
Cheers!
Great work Josh, keep it up!
I have a question, how do you remove the text “WordPress” in the title bar?
What I mean is when you are in the Dashboard (back-end) in the top of your internet browser such as firefox or internet explorer it’ll say:
“Dashboard > yoursitename — WordPress” It’s generated with the code I think.
Great thank you.
Do you know if it’s possible to remove or change the “Help” button in the top right side of the dashboard (next to screen options)?
Look in the file admin-header.php in the wp-admin folder. The title tag for the page is around line 20. Just remove the html character code for the em dash and the text “Wordpress†and you’ll be good to go.
Note that this will re-appear anytime you upgrade your WordPress installation however.
This could be something I write into the next version of the Custom Admin Branding plugin.
Nevermind, I found out how to edit that.
Would love to know what font you are using for the basic “admin login”.
@thefrosty
The font is called “Brody.”
It’s what I’m looking for. Thanks a lot I’ll try it soon as possible, because my connection is to slow.
Hi there, I love this plugin and have been using it for over a year now. I am looking to upgrade to WordPress 2.8.2. Is this plugin working with that version of wordpress?? thanks
Hello.
I tried to install this plugin in WP 2.8.2 without success. I get an WP error message, that says that the plugin is lacking a real “header”.
Hello again,
It worked when I installed directly from wordpress.org through the admin panel.
The error I made before was to download the plugin, changed the images and zipped it again. It seems something got corrupted when zipping with OSX. Odd…
Same issue as Joelle and Jane above in Internet Explorer. It seriously messed with the header layout. Pushes the spacing down and duplicates links showing:
admin | Turbo | Log Out Howdy, admin | Turbo | Log Out
Can provide a URL and login for review at your request, just email me.
WP Version 2.8.3
IE: 8.0.6
Plugin: Version 1.3.4
Others active:
Clean WP Dashboard 1.0
More Fields 1.3
Ozh’ Admin Drop Down Menu 3.3.1
Think it is the same with IE 7.* but can not verify at this moment.
@ScottH
The issue is with the Drop Down Menu plugin. My older version of the plugin worked with it but ever since WordPress changed the administration layout the plugins have not worked together.
I’ll look into it to see what can be done.
Not sure if other plugins are the issue. I’d disabled everyone but this one and it still looked wonkey. May just be rooted in WP’s new admin layout and not affected by Ozh’s at all.
@Scott H
What versions of IE, WordPress, and the plugin are you using?
The plugin seems to cause problems with the media upload screen. I’m thinking if you can program a way for it to not load at all in the media upload screen then this will be fixed. Certains links such as sort and what not are only showing a the bottom third or so of the links. Otherwise, great plugin!
I hope u’ll have an updated version for the latest wordpress would love to add this plug in with my client’s websites
I’m truly enjoying this wordpress plugin. I’m going to use this plugin once I have activated my wordpress blog. I have also downloaded some of your other plugins. I will surely be coming back often to see if you have updates or new plugins.
Oh nose! I liked the CSS’ified version much better!!! Version 2.0 has an ok WordPress pannel but I can no longer specifiy bacground images w/repeat. Also I liked having CSS control over the visual elements with custom_branding.css . I will have to go back to the older version. Please bring back the CSS!
Hey Chris – you actually can still use a repeating background.
The form field for the Admin Header Background Color will accept a full css properties for the background selector. So if you wanted to have a repeating image for your admin header you would enter in for example:
transparent url(http://yoursitename.com/wp-content/plugins/custom-admin-branding/images/header_bg_wordpress_gray.png) repeat-x
Or you could actually use any path to an image – it doesn’t have to be in the Custom Admin Branding Folder.
And the css is still all there its just in the custom_branding.php page instead of a separate style sheet. I may revisit this though to make it easier for people to do there own custom css with the plugin.
IMPORTANT FYI- if using the auto-update plugin function inside of WordPress – Don’t do it unless you renamed the files as indicated (but missed by me) above. You’ll lose your custom images, and have to re-FTP after you upgrade. It clearly states this – but I missed it and just updated and lost images on 6 of my client sites, so thought I’d point it out again for others.
RE: Customizing Images
There are five images that you can customize:
* Login Form Background
* Login Form Login Button Background
* Admin Header Logo
* Favorite Actions Button Background
* Footer Logo
All of the default images are in the images folder which is in the custom-admin-branding plugin folder. To change an image:
1. Create your custom images with the provided Photoshop templates. (They are in the psd_image_templates folder)
2. Upload your custom image(s) to the images folder.
3. Enter the file name of the image you wish to use in the proper form field in the options page.
4. Click the save changes button at the bottom of options page and you will see your changes immediately.
**Important**
To avoid having your custom images overwritten when you upgrade the plugin you’ll need to name them something different than the default names which are:
* wordpress_blue.jpg
* button-grad.png
* logo_wordpress_gray.png
* fav.png
* footer_wordpress_gray.png
Changing the Admin Footer Link
You can have the image in the footer link back to your site, another site, or no site if you wish. Just fill in full url in the Footer Link form field.
Hey Chris,
Sorry about losing your images – with the new version that should be the last time that happens.
Let me know if you have any questions.
You should definitely move any customization out of wp-content/plugins/custom-admin-branding folder. You could place it, for example, in wp-content/uploads/plugins/custom-admin-branding folder so when update is done, customization isn’t touched.
(btw, you should install Subscribe to Comments plugin here, for easier tracking of replies on comments)
Milan,
You are absolutely right. I didn’t know exactly what would or would not be replaced on upgrade and my thinking was obviously wrong – so for the next version it will be a requirement for the images to be outside the plugin folder. And I will install the subscribe plugin – had that on the previous site but forgot to put it here.
Maybe this is possible solution for this issue?
Everything works fine but 3 minor problems.
WP 2.8.5.
XAMPP 1.7.2
I don’t see the boxes to choose the color.
(The boxes where I can define the color #xxxxxx are visible)
In the login preview screen the Form Background doesn’t show ?
(But when i login thrue wp-login.php everyting is ok)
If I install a new plugin the INSTALL NOW shows right in the box. Minor minor problem…
Hey Andy,
You might need to clear your cache and refresh your browser to see the login image preview.
The login color boxes are controlled by javascript – do you have js enabled for your browser?
Yikes! Don’t auto-update. Everything got wiped, and every single field value got replaced with “W.” Happy clients today. Yay.
Hey JP,
Did you install the latest version (2.0.1)? There was a database call issue that screwed up the field values. That should have been fixed in this minor release.
(1) Upgraded today and am unable to see any of my images after uploading them into the plugins file. I have verified that I have typed in the correct path by copying and pasting those same paths into a private page on the blog.
(2) Cannot see the boxes from which to choose the colors; however, I was able to type in the hex #s, so that’s not a problem.
(3) The preview section does not show any images, including the originals that were included in the plugin (wordpress_blue.jpg, logo_wordpress_gray.png or footer_wordpress_gray.png.
I should clarify one point. I have not seen even the plugin’s default images on my website after uploading the plugin. There is no background at the login page. There is no header image on the admin page; it is white. There is no footer image on the admin page.
Same here, unable to see any of my images nor the originals that were included in the plugin.
Richard,
What versions of WP, Browser, and OS are you using?
Josh,
WP: 2.8.5
Browser: Safari
OS: OS X 10.6.2
Josh,
Your the man, the custom_branding.zip solved it !
Thank’s
Josh,
I’ll take that back
When working in Safari its OK in Firefox the login screen appears white again, when I login with Firefox and change it than it works in Firefox and not Safari (login screen white)
?
Liz,
You should have gotten my email. Let me know if you didn’t.
For those of you tracking comments I’ll make sure to post an update when I figure out what the answer to this problem is.
The issue is appearing to be caused by not having the same url for your WordPress address and your Blog address.
In the general settings page in your admin you can specify these urls.
I was using the wrong function in the plugin to call the directory that WordPress was installed to.
I’ll be fixing this in the next release but if you need an update now you can download this file and replace the one that is currently in your custom-admin-branding folder.
custom_branding.zip
Yes, I did get your email and the file. Thank you. This made all my images visible.
I do have another problem that just started today, and this is the only plugin that I’ve installed. Sometimes, but not always, when I login, I am directed to a “not found” page. At that point, I can access the website and the “edit” function is available, so I’ve been able to make changes to posts or pages as needed. This has been on a Windows XP using Firefox and a Windows Vista using IE. I realized that there was an upgrade to 2.8.6 available, so I upgraded via my webhost. At first I thought this fixed the problem, but I have now had it happen a couple of times since then, too.
If you think this might be related to the plugin issue, please advise. If not, let me know and I will check with WP about any issues they think it might be.
Thanks again for all your help.
I think I’m having a similar issue.
My URL and Blog are different too (in accordance with the codex http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory )
And even after replacing the custom_branding.php file (2.0.1?), I get the same results. The header link always goes to the URL address (wp directory) instead of the root.
Not only that, but it wipes out the images, etc. Obviously that wouldn’t be a big deal to change though.
Any ideas? Or is this a different problem that this update file is fixing?
Great plugin otherwise, though!
I am using WordPress version 2.8.5. I installed WordPress Custom Admin Branding but when I tried to activate it I got the following error:
Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare mt_add_pages() (previously declared in /home/nikcree/public_html/mysitesuccess.com/wp-content/plugins/post-rich-videos-and-photos-galleries/wp-media-cincopa.php:220) in /home/nikcree/public_html/mysitesuccess.com/wp-content/plugins/custom-admin-branding/custom_branding.php on line 89
CAn you help here? Many thank
Hey Nik,
Another plugin you have installed is using the same function call. I’ll be changing that in the next version but if you want to get this version to work you’ll need to make a couple minor edits to the plugin file. Open up the file custom_branding.php in either the plugin editor or another editor and around line 11 replace:
add_action(‘admin_menu’, ‘mt_add_pages’);
with:
add_action(‘admin_menu’, ‘custom_branding_add_pages’);
Then around line 21 replace:
function mt_add_pages() {
with:
function custom_branding_add_pages() {
That should clear things up for you.
Hi,
Why did you use the same function name as found in the tutorial in WordPress Codex for adding admin pages?
You show use an unique name to avoid function name crashes!
Yes – I realized that after Nik’s comment. Just a mistake that will be corrected in the next version.
Getting the same white header, and no images showing up. What was the fix for this?
Try deleting your browsers cache and refreshing
Ok, I have done this, and still not seeing any images.
If you can email a temporary login to your site I can take a look for you – just hit up my contact page.
Hey Josh
Fancy little PI you got here. Thanks! It added a nice touch to a couple of my sites. I’ve only used it once so it’s quite possible I’ve overlooked something but it looks like you kinda assume the basic colour pallet will be dark. That might not always be the case. It might be helpful if:
1) To allow for control of the bottom border for #wphead_custom
2) If posssible, control over the Under name link (in the upper right), as well as the link next to it. The WP default appears to have them as a middle/lite grey and on a light BG they’re not as strong as they should be (in my case at least).
Thanks again. Hope these helps.
Hey Mark,
Thanks for the kind words.
I’m not sure about the bottom border on #wphead_custom – there shouldn’t be one there – at least its not in my code.
If you are comfortable you could edit the plugin file’s css to include it if it is still a problem for you. Just look where I declare all the css.
And the links in the upper right corner can be modified on the settings page. Look for the form field labeled “user info link color”
Hi,
Having same issue as others where the colorpicker is not being displayed.
Do you know how I can solve this problem?
WordPress Version 2.9
Plugin Version 2.0.1
Mozilla Firefox 3.5.7
Javascrip enabled.
Cleared history, cache and refreshed. Nothing.
Thanks
Hi Josh – got this working on another site – but am getting the: Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Have tried:
- have no other plugins installed (using Thesis theme)
- deleting plugin, then uploading via FTP, (removed thesis them and installed default) worked then dashboard was ALL white – so removed plugin via FTP and could get dashboard up again.
Probs seemed to start after upgrading to WP 2.9.1
I might try upping the size of the….
EDIT: Just found out what it was: this only happens when the “sharp” thesis skin is installed: http://thesistheme.net/thesis-sharp/ – bummer
liked those skins – but more important we brand it so I guess we’re gonna have to lose them…
Ok mate – keep up the good work
Cheers Mark.
Hey Mark,
Was there any message with the fatal error? Was it possibly a function being re-declared? It might be an easy fix. If you can tell me exactly what the error said I might be able to help.
Gday Josh – thnx for coming back mate
Ok I did things a little differently this time – I couldn;t reproduce the “fatal error” message just a completely blanked out screen in the dashboard area (whenever you click on anything) – I think I’ve narrowed it down to the code that’s causing the problem. I added the css with no problems, but as soon as I added the custom_functions.php file as per below, (for the thesis sharp skin) it casued the problem (I had some other plugins as well but I disabled all that were not necessary):
Anyway mate sorry for the “war and peace” comment but here it is – if you can make any sense of it that would be very much appreciated.

I’m actually having the same problem. I’ve tried to install the plugin and simply get a FATAL ERROR with no details.
NOTE: I’m using Thesis as well.
Any ideas? Fixes?
Please let me know as I’d love to get this up and running!
Would you mind providing me with a temp admin login so I can take a look at the code in context? Just hit up my contact form if you want.
I just wanted to say thanks a lot for this. Very easy customization. Here’s a screen of my login.

Great plugin, thank you. I was using it before, however I’m using the latest version of wordpress MU now, 2.9xxx and it will not install. I get a message saying it caused a fatal error so it could not be installed. I’m hoping you’ll be doing an update soon? I might be able to lend a hand with it if need be as well.
Hey Mike,
Can you let me know what the fatal error was? Did it give you any information at all?
I don’t remember what the error I was getting was… I’m now using the latest version of wordpress_mu with buddypress… They just did an update that changed all theme structures for buddypress…. I’m still sorting out registration issues with http://www.xind.ca, but I wonder if you have tested your plugin in mu with the latest version of buddypress? I would try installing it if you think it would work.
Thanks.
-Mike.
Hi Josh,
I help develop a plugin named WPBook a user recently reported a problem using both your Custom Admin Branding and our WPBook plugin after some investigating I found we were both using the function name “custom_footer();” and “custom_header();”
We are going to rename our function for the next release but I figured I would give you a heads up and encourage you to do the same. I think this may be the same issue users are having with the Thesis theme as it appears they also are using “custom_footer();”
You can find the discussion about WPBook and the problem here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/357941
Let me know if you have any thoughts or ideas.
Brooke
Cool – thanks for letting me know. I’ve realized with the amount of plugins that are out there its fairly important to make sure your function names are unique. What I will probably do is precede the name of the function with the name of the plugin in future releases: so “custom_footer();” becomes “custom_admin_branding_custom_footer();”. Long and ridiculous but the user never sees the function name and it should prevent the fatal errors from showing up because if someone else has that function name…well that would be just silly.
That’s exactly what we’re doing “wpbook_custom_footer” with the same idea that if someone else uses that name then they ARE silly.
Sounds like this might be the answer to my problems.
Josh – Could you let us know where we can make some changes to the plugin to rectify this?
Thanks!
I’m working on an update tonight and will post it to the comment section for you all to test before I release it to the WP repository.
Thanks for the help!
Awesome, Thanks Josh!
Okay, here is a beta version of the next release of the plugin. Please test it out and let me know if there are any issues.
Notes:
*This download is the main plugin file only (no images or scripts)
*To avoid the headache of losing images when the plugin gets updated the image files now can live outside of the plugin folder. This means the form fields in the options page require full url’s – I am recommending that people upload their custom images through the media uploader, though you are free to do whatever.
*A couple other updates are you can now hide the WordPress version in the footer and you can add your own custom css if you wish!
*I haven’t totally figured out the “white screen” issue that people have when the plugin is activated, but I do think I have discovered how to fix it everytime. Just go to the custom admin branding options page and refresh your browser there.
Please leave all support comments here as it will be much easier to give and receive support.
http://wordpress.org/tags/custom-admin-branding?forum_id=10
Thanks!
Download plugin version 2.1
THAT WORKED! Thanks. Now – to sort this thing out!
Thanks for the plugin. I was just trying it with WPMU 2.9.1.1 and it seems like there’s now way to apply the changes globally.
Hey Josh,
I liked this plugin so much that I put it running on 3 sites. On one it is running absolutly fine, but the other 2 are throwing up errors. I get the below every time I try and go to a page that uses an option from the Custom Branding (One of this is printed for each option, so some pages have more than others). The branding itself is actually saved and available though. Is this an error you have seen before?
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/g24dyne/public_html/wp-content/plugins/custom-admin-branding/custom_branding.php:14) in /home/g24dyne/public_html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 868
Hey, don’t worry about the above, I figured it out. Looks like I accidently added a space before the <?php when i was haveing a look at how you coded the plugin. Still, wierd that it worked on one site but not the other!
Hey David,
Sorry I was not able to reply sooner but I’m glad you were able to get it figured out.
Installing this plugin totally screws up the “press this” page. Is there a way to fix that?
Very nice plugin – however, I can’t get rid of the default blue border around the login button. It shows correctly in the preview, but not here:

I’ve added the colors-fresh.css styles that control this button to the Custom CSS box within the Custom Admin Branding control panel (and like I said, it looks fine in the preview). How do I change the color of this blue border on the frontend?
This is an error in the plugin which I fixed manually, was only a 1 line fix if I remember correctly. Let me know if you want me to post the corrected code. See here for the working fix – http://www.dynedrewett.com/wp-login.php
Post away. Thanks for the help.
Yes please!
Hi Josh
Great plugin and something I’ve been searching for.
Works fine except for one thing; when I want to upload an image in the add image to post section, the custom header loads too – which is kind of a small bug I guess, but still – how would it be possible to disable it from loading for that upload screen?
Regards
Sol
Yeah, I haven’t figured out why it does that exactly. Its a known bug, just never had the time to squash it. Any help would be appreciated!
Hi there,
I really prefer the standard wordpress header rather than the one in your plugin. But I would like to use the functionality you offer on the login page. Is there a way to restore the header inside the admin area to what it was?
Thanks!
Sharif
Hello,
Thank you for a great plug-in. Unfortunately it is conflicting with another great plug-in “RB Internal Links.”
When I attempt to use RB Internal Links using TinyMCE the pop-up window loads the Custom Admin banner and gives a “Fatal error: Call to undefined function favorite_actions() in…custom_branding.php on line 559″
This issue was posted on the RB Internal Links forum and the poster said they gave up your plug-in because they couldn’t do without the functionality of RB Internal Links. Unfortunately, I am in the same boat and will be deactivating the plug-in until the bug can be fixed.
The RB Internal Links forum post can be found here:
http://blograndom.com/links/forum/topic/clashes-with-custom-admin-branding-plug-in#post-59
Thanks again for a great plug-in and I hope the bug can be fixed otherwise it’s farewell! I’d be happy to assist in debugging however I can, but I have limited PHP experience. Let me know if I can help and thanks again.
Hey Josh
I posted a beta version of the plugins next release a few comments ago that should fix the function conflict. If you try it and it doesn’t work let me know. Thanks!
Hey Josh,
Thanks for such a quick response. Unfortunately the Beta is still causing the same error just on a different line: 580.
I saw in the Beta Release comment that you’re doing support on WordPress.org so I started a thread there and will look for a response from you there.
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/407402?replies=1
Maybe it’d be worthwhile to make a note directing people to use WordPress.org support on this page’s content if that’s what you’d prefer?
We’re actually switching from RB Internal Links to AWS Easy Links so this conflict will no longer be an issue, but I’m guessing you still have an interest in resolving it for other users.
I posted on the RB Links thread and directed them to the WordPress.org thread as well.
Thanks again for a super plug-in and good luck!
I installed this plugin yesterday. But I am getting an error for my site.
“Fatal error: Call to undefined function favorite_actions() in /home/…./public_html/….com/wp-content/plugins/custom-admin-branding/custom_branding.php on line 559″
Hi,
The current version has some minor visual bugs in that the “Site | Turbo | Logout” links are black on a black background. Obv I could edit the core css but just thought Id post and let you know
Cheers!
ugh – many apologies… Didn’t notice the panel for changing the settings. Working on a site ive taken over so im not familiar with the plugins used – sorry to waste your time!
Great plugin. I have been looking for one for a very long time. Normally, I use to hard code in the core files but that was not a solution as regular updates use to ruin it. Btw, the login, design panel ain’t working with wordpress 3.0 and neither is the login button. May be you can fix it in the next update
Thanks.
My bad, its working fine, but not reflecting the changes in the preview section on the right. Oh and there is some bug in the javascript also as in the plugin’s settings page, not even the wordpress jquery features are working.
I’m using the plugin on WP 3.0. I customized everything and love it. However, I thought the customizations would also be picked up by any new blog/site that was created afterwards, but all new blogs/sites have the default. Any way for the new ones to be created with the new customized admin and login? That would be perfect as I am running a WP 3.0 membership site.
Thanks,
Matt
Are you using WP in its multi-site mode?
I’ve never tested the plugin with that if so.
But my understanding (and this may have changed with the code merge) is that you can install plugins for all sites which you would do in the super admin account or you can install plugins for individual sites.
I believe that if you go the route of installing for all sites my plugin should work fine.
If I get some time I’ll test it and post the results.
I’m trying to get this to work on a Multisite installation. I had to hard code the URLs to the images because it was trying to pull them in via subdir.websitename.com on all site blogs. However, it seems like when I use the settings in the admin page, the variables are not being stored globally? because they change fine on one site, but not the rest of the blogs. Any ideas?
I have WordPress 3.0 installed and everything is working great with the exception of two small bugs.
I can’t seem to find a way to change the “Turbo” and “Log Out” visited link colors. The link color and hover color work great but the problem seems to occur once those links have been visited. My background is set to black and the link text appears black for those two when they’ve been clicked previously. Any way to adjust?
The other problem is with the Login button. I’ve changed all of the colors but the Login Button Border Color will not change from the default blue. The rest of the colors display correctly. Know of a fix for this?
Thanks!
It appears that the setting for the login button border actually gets put into the login button background css at runtime. If you change the echo on line 360 to login_button_color instead of login_border_color it works as expected. Sounds like there’s a bit of a mixup with terminology though. Hopefully Josh can figure it out?
actually, you also have to add:
border-color:’.$login_button_color.’;
to line 468
Fantastic plugin! Curious and excited about release that supports WP 3.0.. currently my header and footer images are only showing in Chrome.,
Hey Dylan,
The plugin should work ok for 3.0. Are you using the beta code I posted in the comments awhile back?
If not, try that.
Here is the link:
http://redlettersstudio.com/wp-content/plugins/custom-admin-branding/custom_branding.zip
Doesn’t work with WP 3.0.1 (and that’s based on the 2.0.1 beta download).
Shame, cos’ the plugin looks brilliant!
Yep, you are right. This plugin doesn’t work well with WP 3.0.1
Yes, WP 3.0 multi-site enabled. When new sites are created I would like for the admin and login to appear with my branded version instead of the default. So far I’ve just installed it as per the instructions. I’ll test it some more and see what happens. Thanks for the reply.
Ryan…I have not had a chance to test this or search for other options, but it should be located in the custom-branding.php file around line 100 or 110, says something like this
$options['login_button_color'] = ‘#21759B’;
$options['login_button_background'] = ‘button-grad.png’;
Not sure about the turbo and log out, but there are some “link color” lines further down the file, try changing something like the “user info” colors or something like that and see what happens.
Hope this helps.
Hello and thx for this fantastic plugin.
I have a question about it , how can i just disable this effects and customization for login page? actually i need just apply it for header and footer.
thx again
Hey this plugin in is awesome. Noticed some bugs on WordPress 3.0+ though.
The live preview doesn’t work, the colour picker stuff doesn’t show and the #backtoblog css doesn’t work properly. Any chance of updating this fab plugin to fully support 3.0+ ?
Hi there,
I have been using your excellent plugin for some time with no problems. I now want to use it together with “Editor Tabs” but I get the following:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare on_load_page() (previously declared in …/blog/wp-content/plugins/custom-admin-branding/custom_branding.php:92) in …/blog/wp-content/plugins/editor-tabs/editor-tabs.php on line 39
Any ideas? I am on wordpress 301
Furthermore, any news on if this work as described by matt above on a multisite? Has anyone tried it?
Thank you.
Hi there, i try translate the plugin to portuguese, but isn’t working, can you help please? Thank you
hi, i’m using this great plugin together with ozh drop down.

Hello
I used your pluging with the last version of WP 3.0.4 and it works well even for a newbie like me!
I just want to know how I can change the background color of the whole login page.
Thank you for your help.
Hi,
Your plugin’s latest version at WP.org has a merge conflict, and doesn’t work now. Can you fix it, please?
DK
Not sure what a merge conflict is, can you please elaborate? Thanks.
cannot reactivate plugin since 3.0 update receiving following error
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare admin_branding_options_init() (previously declared in D:\Hosting\7461359\html\blog\wp-content\plugins\custom-admin-branding\custom_branding.php:32) in D:\Hosting\7461359\html\blog\wp-content\plugins\custom-admin-branding\custom_branding.php on line 478
Having issues with Subversion – I posted a note on the blog above and a link to the working version of the plugin.
When I try to load the new image templates into Photoshop it says they are not valid Photoshop files.
Hi Ken, I just uploaded new files to the WordPress repository. Hopefully the download there will be available shortly.
If you hit me up on my contact form I can email them to you directly as well.
I updated today your plugin, and it’s erase my images and configs!! Why?
Had to say this…but I hate the changes. Why did you remove the view of the login box. I used this for a membership site and upgrading totally screwed up the look of the login. Also the top header bar is back to ugly, exactly what 2.0 fixed. Anyhow, 2.0 is a win for me. The update I could do without. Sorry.

Hi, in your “settings”, there is an “upload” button for login logo and login button background. When I click on them, they don’t work. Can I fix this so that it is easy to upload logos instead of using url?
